Take the short journey to Phillip Island. It is only a 2 hour drive through the eastern suburbs of Melbourne. Philip Island is home to Australia’s famous Little Penguins; however there are many other sights to see such as the Grand Prix circuit and Fur Seal colony at Seal Rocks. The famous `Penguin Parade’ occurs each evening at sunset and should not be missed.

Depart Phillip Island and continue along the coastal Bass Highway to Wonthaggi and Inverloch where you may like to stop for morning tea before turning onto the Promontory Road which takes you straight into Wilsons Promontory. Spend the afternoon following the many walking tracks through eucalypt forests and wildflowers to secluded coves, white sand beaches and granite mountains.

Today make your way from Wilsons Promontory to Foster, and then join the South Gippsland Highway to reach Sale. Continue on the Princes Highway to reach Bairnsdale.

Depart Bairnsdale and travel to Orbost, situated on the banks of the Snowy River. This is a Gippsland timber village which is surrounded by spectacular coastal and mountain territory. A further 75 kilometres is Cann River, excellent for its fishing and bush walking in the rugged hinterland. Continue driving along the Princes Highway crossing the Victorian and New South Wales border and onto Eden. To the south and north of Eden is the Ben Boyd National Park. Travel onto your destination today of Merimbula.

From Merimbula, take the coast road through Tathra and Tanja to Bermagui and be sure to stop in the quaint town of Tilba Tilba. Re-join the Princes Highway and travel onto Narooma, a popular fishing resort. Take the coast road again from Moruya to Batemans Bay. Batemans Bay is a picturesque coastal village known for its crayfish and oysters.

Re-join the Princes Highway this morning as you depart Batemans Bay, travelling north to Ulladulla, and then take the turn-off for Huskisson and Jervis Bay. Nearby Hyams Beach, is known to have the whitest sand in the world. Jervis Bay is well known for its resident dolphin population and a dolphin cruise is a must.

On the final stretch home, your journey takes you along the Grand Pacific Drive from Wollongong to Sydney. The road hugs the coastline with spectacular coastal scenery, and quaint villages to stop at along the way. The highlight is the impressive Sea Cliff Bridge between Coalcliff and Clifton. Travel through the Royal National Park before reaching Sydney.
